Ripple Records tasked Submerge with creating an eCommerce store and digital archive for Bill Wyman, musician and former bassist of the Rolling Stones.

The strategic challenge

Ripple Records and former Rolling Stones bass player Bill Wyman wanted to modernise their website, launch an ecommerce store and create a digital archive charting Bill’s lengthy career as a musician, photographer and author.

The site needed to not look ‘just another website’ – with a multimedia kiosk-style approach needed to allow fans to explore a curated collection of Bill’s memorabilia and explore his musical career spanning decades.

“I’ve found Submerge to be incredibly reliable, flexible and helpful – and they consistently create great content and fantastic web design.”

Our approach

Submerge worked with Bill, his management company Quietus and his record label Ripple Records to design, develop, code and launch a new, highly visual website with an e-commerce store providing access to Rolling Stones merchandise, streaming video, audio and ticket sales.

We created a new, high-bandwidth multimedia site celebrating Bill and the Rolling Stones. We developed a complete end-to-end ecommerce store and ensured it met demanding SEO standards to reach a global audience of Rolling Stones fans. It launched in 2021.

We used WooCommerce as the store engine, hosting a range of merchandise including Bill Wyman clothing, signed albums, prints and memorabilia.

The site called for lots of interactive elements to be custom-developed, including a full multi-decade interactive timeline of Bill’s musical career – known as the Bill Wyman Archive. This provides up-close, never-before-seen photos of legendary items from Bill’s time with the Rolling Stones, including amps, bass guitars and clothing.

The result

The new site doubled organic traffic within three months, with new fans discovering Bill’s legacy, resulting in hundreds of e-commerce sales processed each week. The site is promoted across social, engaging with thousands of fans and creating a thriving fan-based community.

The site has delivered nearly 7,000 monthly visits from fans, with the online store allowing fans to purchase merchandise while exploring Bill’s legacy and on-going work.
